Lite Route Day 5: Murten -> Solothurn

After a breakfast fit for kings, you will leave town and head north towards Lake Bienne in the Canton of Berne.

You are now in the center of the “3-lakes region”, the site of the 2002 Swiss Expo. The expo organizers, working to develop ecological tourism, invested in new bicycle paths, bridges and the rest areas that you’ll encounter on today’s ride. You may wonder why there aren’t more bikers in this cycling paradise. It will be up to you to spread the word once back home ! But if it's the weekend or a school holiday, be prepared to see lots of family's on tandems with trailers behind them. The route is flat and family friendly.

On Lake Biene, you’ll see picturesque vineyard villages clinging to the high banks. You’ll then follow the shoreline to the city of Bienne and from there continue east along the Nidau-Buren canal until we meet the Aare river. You’ll never be far from the water on this ride !

Once in Solothurn, you’ll be able to continue contemplating the Aare from your hotel window. But that’s not all there is to do: Solothurn is a baroque city and its period architecture is unrivaled in Switzerland. Time for a stroll !
